Rental suggestion

looking for a 3 month (approx.) rental starting Jan 6th 2014 to April 1. Must be under 900 Euros including utilities per month. 2 retired Canadians, non smokers like to golf. Would like rental either in or very close to town centre for walking and window shopping. Will have a car rental therefore need rental unit with parking. would like the terrace to face south - south/west exposure. also need a BBQ. We have small but very nice home here in Canada. Our first time to the area therefore would like something nice. If rental is outside of town then a gated community is fine. I have said the area of Marbella but could be Estepona, Puerto Banus, Fuengriola or any other suggestion. Please forward ideas with pictures, location and any links available. Thanks and look forward to hearing from anybody.

Grand Finals at Santa Maria Bowls Club

SANTA MARIA Bowls Club held a Grand Finals Day this Season.

With the exception of the Drawn Pairs and Singles Finals to identify the Club’s representatives for this year’s Champion of Champions event, the remaining finals were played in glorious weather.

The Ladies & Gents 2-Bowl Singles were very closely contested and were nip and tuck throughout.

In the gents final, Stuart Thacker retained his title with a thrilling 21-18 victory over the Club’s newly elected Vice-Captain Dale Tomlin.

The Ladies contest, between two players seeking to win their first ever Club title, was a marathon. Ultimately it was Sheila Booton who emerged victorious with a hard fought 21-17 win against Dine Warn.

In the Handicap SinglesPaul Griffith, the only “scratch player” in the competition, had battled through some tough games to reach the Final where his opponent was John Winslow playing off +3.

With Paul holding game at 20-19, and his Bowl resting on the Jack, John’s final Bowl of the end rested shot to take the final into a one end shootout. It was John who held on to take his first Singles title at the Club.

In the Nominated Pairs a superb display of lead bowling from Alan Turner was backed up by an excellent Skip’s performance from Susan Walker as they won 23-5. Their opponents, Stuart Thacker & Nancy Shaw, played well but had no answer to the relentless pressure.

In the Drawn Triples, one team stood out as being the well balanced unit to take the title. Susan Walker, Mo Huddleston & Dot Clark were the hot favourites against Murray Johns, Phyllis Thomson and, Sheila Booton. The lead changed hands throughout but, thanks to constant pressure from his front end, it was Murray’s Triple which edged in front on the 16th end and they ultimately ran out deserving 21-14 winners.

With so few members able to commit to the Champion of Champions, the Club introduced a new competition with Ladies and Gents competing on equal terms.

With the fancied names falling by the wayside at an alarming rate, it was Nancy Shaw and Dale Tomlin who emerged from the pack to contest the final. Nancy took the inaugural Champion of the Club Singles title 21-18.

Season of Giving

As we take the decorations down and tidy away the remains of Christmas wrapping paper, thousands of households across Spain are preparing to do it all again in celebration of the Three Kings!

Now you are renting long term on the Costa del Sol, you may want to settle in by learning more about Spanish traditions and the Christmas period is a great way to do that. With all kinds of exciting events being held until January 7th, there is still plenty of time to get involved. Every year on the 5th January, the three wise men take part in a big parade through Marbella and San Pedro throwing sweets to all the children in the street who try and catch them all with upside down umbrellas! There is also a big selection of festive events for all ages such as shows, concerts, fun days and competitions, so it is a magical time to be in the area, even if there’s no snow!

If you find that you have lots of left over, non perishable food and some unwanted gifts, why not put those to good use and donate them to charity? Unfortunately there are many families in Spain who haven’t been able to celebrate Christmas with the food and presents they would have wanted and the Three Kings day will see many go without again. If you have gifts from Christmas which will be likely to end up in the back of the cupboard never to be seen again, donating them to charity could really make someone’s day and a donation of food could make a big difference to a family.

When out shopping in the sales this week, keep your favourite charities in mind as any donations made now could easily be distributed to those in need just in time for Three Kings Day. Getting involved with charity is also a great way to start settling in! If you don’t speak Spanish you could drop your donations into somewhere like Specsavers Opticas in Marbella and Fuengirola who are currently collecting on behalf of Red Cross and AECC (Spanish Cancer Care Association).

You can see all details of local events, things to do and be involved with, including charity work, in the local newspapers and local websites such as Marbella Family Fun. Visit our website if you are looking to rent on the Costa del Sol in 2013 or call us for more information on 952 859 595.

The “What Makes You Happy?” Book Project:

You can now get involved with a fantastic new project that has the potential to reach numerous people. So many of us can tend to focus on the negative things in life and what we cannot do, not what we can do; on what we do not have, not what we do have. The: “What Makes You Happy?” Book Project is the start of something big that I want to continue and grow, so that it enriches people’s lives and touches the masses, not just a few. This is all about you and what makes you feel happy, which in turn, when others read will bring enlightenment to them and make them think about what makes them happy too. Like attracts like! Therefore positivity attracts positivity. To contribute you can post what makes you happy* (anything from one word, to a sentence up to a whole paragraph!) on here. You can also email me at: or Or contact me via Twitter at:

*All you need to do is please send me a quote, a word, a sentence or a paragraph about: "What Makes You Happy?" So you could say something like: "Sunshine" or: "The sunshine makes me happy." or: "The sunshine makes me happy because I can sit around the pool and when I get too hot, I can jump in the cool water." Things along these lines... This is a very light-hearted idea – It can be more deep and thoughtful than this.

(So, there are a few choices, you can get in touch via here, email, facebook or even contact me via Twitter – You can Tweet me or Direct Message (DM) me).

You do not have to have your name published, you can remain anonymous if you so wish. (Or create an alternative (pseudonym) name for yourself!) Many thanks in advance to anyone who shows interest in the project and also that contributes!

Please do get involved and tell others what makes you happy!

Many thanks in advance to anyone who shows interest in the project and also that contributes! I am very much looking forward to getting some more quotes. The response so far has been really great! :) :) :)

P.S. Please do try to put your quote in quotation marks. If you do not, no worries, it just makes it easier to see exactly what you would like to be published! And also please let me know how you would like your name to appear under your quote. (If you need anymore information, please just get in touch!)
